T – 4 Days

-till classes start…yes I’m nervous. 🙂

I attended Wentworth’s orientation for “Colored” students (yes, colored??) yesterday.

It was very informative. We participated in activities that were designed to help us connect with each other. Several of WIT’s student resource departments gave presentations on what they do and how they can help us. We also had two lecture-style classes on transitioning into college from high school and succeeding in college.

My appreciation for my independent schooling experience grows with every bit of college information that I receive. I really believe that being an independent student will help me better face the challenges of college because I already know certain key things, such as the fact that my education is my sole responsibility.

I spent my first night on campus last night. I also had to face the challenge of “household” shopping last night. I don’t know where anything is…and there are soooo many things to get. I have new respect for my mom…but I have helped/been watching her and tried to emulate her efficiency. 🙂 At least everything was in English. I remember similar shopping in Amsterdam…where everything is in Dutch. 🙂

I have orientation in a couple minutes so I’d best be on my way.

Of English, (not) Blogging and College Wishlists.

I need to set aside blogging time – time that I can use to write about interesting things (not random, mundane life notes).

I am almost “bursting with excitement” today because one of my friends is having a baby! (I mustn’t say anymore just yet…online baby window shopping lol 🙂 )

Other than that, I’m working on getting out of a English 020 night class. I was accepted late, talked to the admissions office then tried to take the school’s online English placement exam but couldn’t, emailed them, didn’t get a reply, called someone today only to find out that the exam went offline yesterday. I had tried to take it over a week ago. By default, I have to start in an English 020 (remedial) night class, and I’m no longer eligible to test into English 1 Honors (English 125). I explained my situation to the woman at the office. She was friendly and said that she’d ask if I could be considered for English 125. I also (hopefully) will be able to take the placement test before classes start.

I was able to confirm that my name is on the housing wait-list and that I have a physical next week.

I’m looking for scholarships. If you know of any – please pass the information on!

I got the names of my books today I’ve put/am putting together a wishlist of the things I need for school. Click here to view it.

I’ve also been working out a tad little bit. I think I’m getting stronger 🙂

Day 16
74 Dayz to go

“Just keep on swimming” – Dory

Today has been one of those days when quotes from movies such as “Finding Nemo” become actually useful.

I have a lot to do and I’m not sure how I’m going to get it all done. All I can do right now is “keep on swimming” (Thanks Dory! 🙂 ). Again, it was very humid today. I worked on math, chemistry, ordered some Moleskine notebooks (that were on sale) and my summer reading for college. I need to buy some more notebooks – I’m looking for a couple a high quality, 8.5×11″, reporter style notebooks. Preferably with squared (graph) paper. Any suggestions? I haven’t found anything yet…

I also really wish they would post the textbooks we’ll be using already so I can take a look at them before school starts.

I talked to someone who waived my New Student Orientation attendance requirement in lieu of my attending Wentworth’s IMPACT! program (networking for minorities). I didn’t ask – they just did it. I also registered for the Women At Wentworth networking/mentoring program.
